ARA, Inc.  UH60 Blackhawk Seat

Pilot's and Copilot's Seats

These seats are in the cockpit and are interchangeable with each other.  Each seat has a vertical height adjustment and a horizontal seat adjustment.  Two tracks on the cockpit floor allow the seat to slide forward and aft.  Four rollers, two in each rail guide are individually adjustable so that the roller and floor rails will have optimum clearance between the seat and floor rails.  The seat can be locked into position at 1/2 inch spaces vertically, and 5/8 inch spaces horizontally. Pilot or copilot restraint is by a shoulder harness, lap belt and crotch strap.  A shoulder harness inertia reel is on the left side of each seat.

The reel allows about 18 inches of travel and automatically locks when subjected to a sudden force.  Each seat has a rear tilt feature which allows the seat to be tilted back into the cabin for removal or treatment of a wounded or injured pilot or copilot.  This is done by pulling out on the tilt back control handles.  Before performing this operation, the seat must first be dropped to its lowest point by stepping down on the emergency vertical release pedal.  The black and yellow striped pedal is located on the lower left of the rear carriage.  Then the tilt back can be operated by pushing outboard away from each other the black and yellow striped control handles.  This action pulls release pins in the carriage and then the seat and its occupant can be tilted back and rested on the floor.  The seat can be returned to its upright position.  Care must be taken to reset the pins by pulling the control handles inboard towards each other.
