About ARA, Inc.
ARA, Inc. was founded in 1961 by Bernard and Jane Mazelsky to provide basic and applied research and development of products for military and industrial organizations.  Holding degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Virginia, and UCLA (ABD), Mr. Mazelsky was the scientific and technical director of research and development contracts in the field of aerospace, missle and rotary wing vehicles, involving such fields as structures, aerodynamics, heat transfer, thermoaeroelasticity, and control systems.  Prior to establishing ARA, Inc., Mr. Mazelsky provided professional consultation for institutions including Aerojet-General Corporation, General Dynamics Corporation, Space-General Corporation, California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech), and others.  He was the principal investigator for many U.S. Government  contracts and programs for the U.S. Force, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and NASA.  In addition to authoring many publications, Mr. Mazelsky and ARA, Inc. were granted many U.S. and International patents for:  Gust alleviation device for commercial transports, Articulated-distorted models for determining aerodynamic influence co-efficients, Co-Inventor on the NQR Program, and an Energy-Absorbing Highway Protective System.

ARA, Inc. is an acronym of "Aerospace Research Associates", a small, wholly owned company employing 10 people.  ARA, Inc. has specialized in the various aspects of survivability in crew and passenger aircraft seating, including the practical application of numerous derivations of high-energy attenuators.  These attenuators, developed and patented by Mr. Mazelsky as President and Chairman of the Board of ARA, Inc., are trademarked as "TOR-SHOKS" for linear attenuation, and were originally applied as crash-absorbing devices for the automotive industry (e.g., car bumpers, highway barriers, etc.)

With the onset of extreme interest by the U.S. Armed Forces in the integration of survivability into their aircraft, ARA, Inc. proposed and was awarded several U.S. Government R & D contracts for crashworthy crew seats for helicopters which consequently evolved into production programs.
